Beavers Best Knights 4-1 in POD / Season Finale!

Beavercreek was back on the ice Sunday morning at the NTPRD Chiller in Springfield for the final game of the POD Tournament and also their final game of the 2023-2024 season. They were paired up against a familiar SWOHSHL foe in the Alter Knights. This was the fourth time this season that these two teams faced off against each other, with the Beavers owning a 2-1 series lead.

The game was scoreless after one, however, early into the second period Alex Elsner finally broke the ice and scored off a pass from Hayden Drake, giving Creek a 1-0 lead. The score remained that way until late in that period, Elsner skated up the ice and put the biscuit in the basket yet again. In the dying minute of the second period, Chase Neuroth tallied a goal of his own off a pass from Elsner and Isaac Graham, giving the Beavers a commanding 3-0 lead going into the intermission. Alter did get a goal early in the third, but midway through the period Elsner lit the lamp one more time, giving himself a hat trick on the day, and pushing Creek’s lead to 4-1, which ended up being the final score of the contest. Ian Champagne was solid once again between the pipes for the Beavers and turned away 27 shots in the contest.

Beavercreek ended up going 2-2 in the POD tournament and 15-15-1 on the 2023-2024 campaign. Congrats to the team on a solid season and best of luck to our graduating seniors: Ian Champagne, Cameron Clements, Alex Elsner, Isaac Graham, JJ Lehman, Mason Washburn, and manager Ava Forlines!

Creek Loses to Lake 6-2 in POD Play

Beavercreek was back on the ice Saturday night for their third and final game of round robin play in the POD Tournament against Lake. The POD-A standings were tight and the Beavers were hoping that they could gain a few points and have a chance to play in the third place game of the tournament. The ice seemed tilted in Lake’s favor early on and they drew first blood five minutes in to take a 1-0 lead. Midway through the period, Alex Elsner took a clearing pass from Hayden Drake, skated his way between the Lake defenders, and scored on a nifty wrist shot, tying the game at 1-1. That turned out to be Elsner’s 154 goal of his career, making him the all time scoring leader for Beavercreek Hockey, surpassing Thomas Bush. Congratulations Alex!!

Lake tallied a goal in the final minute of the first period and scored another one early in the second, and the Beavers were down 3-1. Midway through the second, Elsner added to his all time scoring title by taking a clearing pass from JJ Lehman and slipping the puck past Lake’s netminder, cutting Lake’s lead to 3-2. Unfortunately, only seconds after this, Lake scored again, pushing their lead to 4-2. Creek battled valiantly to try to cut into that deficit, but were unable to do so and ultimately succumbed to Lake by a final score of 6-2.

Next up for Beavercreek is their final game of the POD tourney and also their final game of the season against the Alter Knights Sunday morning at the NTPRD Chiller in Springfield. Let’s go Creek!

Creek Falls to Clay 5-3

Beavercreek faced off against the Clay Eagles in a second round match up in the POD tournament Saturday afternoon at the NTPRD Chiller. The Beavers were going to have their hands full with the high flying Eagles, who made it to the third round of districts playoffs.

Creek played well from the drop of the puck but found themselves down 1-0 late into the first period. With a little less than six minutes to go in the first, Chase Neuroth connected on a shot from the top of the circles, tying the game at 1-1. Unfortunately, Clay scored again late in the first and took the lead 2-1. Early in the second, the Beavers had a 5-on-3 advantage and capitalized when Hayden Drake buried a slapshot off a pass from JJ Lehman, knotting the game at 2-2. However, the Eagles responded with two more goals in the period and had a 4-2 lead at the intermission. The Beavers continued fight and were rewarded for their effort when Alex Elsner scored off a clearing pass from Drake. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough and Creek fell to Clay 5-3.

Next up for the Beavers is their final pairing in round robin play when the face Lake Saturday night at the NTPRD Chiller. Let’s go Creek!
